Ottoman sultans usually sired heirs by concubines of their Harem, and royal marriages beyond concubinage was rare for much of Ottoman history. Under Islamic law, a child by a concubine is considered fully-legitimate, and the Ottomans used this principle to make the Harem a formal institution of government. Tag: Reverted

  • 03:0403:04, 26 May 2023 diff hist +81 Makhdoom Lutufullah Cleared up some awkward phrasing, and edited for accuracy; he was not the first to author a Persian-language translation of the Qur'an (see the page on Quran translations). Also, did he also translate the Qur'an into Sindhi? This article is in "Category:Translators of the Quran into Sindhi," and it says he is FROM Sindh and wrote Sindhi poetry, but the article itself only mentions a Persian translation of the Qur'an. Clarification needed.
  • 02:1502:15, 26 May 2023 diff hist −52 Birmingham Quran manuscript Significance: The term "Qur'an Desecration" doesn't apply here. The destruction of non-canonical versions of the Qur'an was not intended to be a desecration; rather, it was justified out of respect for the Qur'an and its incorruptibility. One may disagree with this justification, but that's irrelevant-- "desecration" requires intent to disrespect, and that does not describe the intention here.
