The 2008 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup is being held in New Zealand from 28 October to 16 November 2008. It is the officially recognized world championship for women's under-17 national football teams. This is the first women's world youth championship organized by FIFA with the age limit of 17.
Host Cities
Matches will be played in four New Zealand cities
- The Auckland conurbation, New Zealand's largest metropolitan area, will host the final and 3rd place playoff. The designated host stadium is located in North Shore City.
- Hamilton will host two of the quarter-finals.
- Wellington, New Zealand's capital city, will host two of the quarter-finals.
- Christchurch, the only host city in the South Island, will host the semi-finals.
Pool matches will be spread evenly among these cities. The host nation, New Zealand, will be based mostly in Auckland but will play one pool match in Wellington.

Qualified teams
- AFC: The top three finishers in the 2007 U-16 Asian Championship: North Korea, Japan and South Korea.[citation needed]
- CAF: The top two teams out of three from the 2008 CAF Women's U-17 Championship qualifying tournament: Nigeria and Ghana.
- CONCACAF:The top three finishers in the 2008 CONCACAF U-17 Championship: the United States, Costa Rica and Canada.
- CONMEBOL: The top three teams from the 2008 South American Under 17 Women's Championship: Colombia, Brazil and Paraguay.[1]
- OFC: New Zealand (qualified as host)
- UEFA: The top four teams from the 2008 UEFA Women's Under-17 Championship: Germany, France, Denmark and England.[2]
