The Bir Sreshtho (The Most Valiant Hero) is the highest military award of Bangladesh. It is given to those who martyred themselves for their nation. In the history of Bangladesh, seven men have won this honor. The other 3 awards are named, in decreasing order of importance, Bir Uttom, Bir Bikrom and Bir Protik.

Recipients

All the recipients of this award were killed during the Indo-Pakistani Conflict of 1971 or the Liberation War as it is known in Bangladesh.

Note: When referring to martyrs, the word 'shaheed' is often put before each individuals name as a mark of respect
