The Ben-Gurion University of the Negev was founded in 1969, in Be'er Sheva, Israel.

The University is mandated to promote development of the Negev region, inspired by the vision of Israel's first Prime Minister, David Ben-Gurion, who believed that the country's future lay in the South.
