Rated RKO is a heel professional wrestling tag team currently wrestling on the RAW brand of World Wrestling Entertainment where they are the current World Tag Team Champions. The team consists of Edge, Randy Orton, and Lita as the valet of the group.

History

One week after D-Generation X interfered in the "last chance" Steel Cage match between Edge and John Cena for Cena's WWE Championship, Randy Orton joined forces with Edge in an attempt to "get rid" of DX. He invited Orton to be his guest on RAW's interview segment "The Cutting Edge". He cited Orton's lack of success after being kicked out of Evolution by Evolution leader Triple H, which he claimed stalled Orton's career, as well as the antics of DX taking up TV time that he felt should rightfully go to the younger stars as reasons Orton should join him, with Orton agreeing.

Edge and Orton immediately became very outspoken about DX, including mocking them in a sketch reminiscent of the ones DX would do about their opponents. The named Rated RKO has been mostly adopted by the fans following a promo in which Randy Orton stated "we are rated RKO". The group's name comes from a combination of Edge's nickname "The Rated R Superstar" and Randy Orton's fininsher, the RKO (Also his initials: Randy Keith Orton). Eventually Orton traded wins with Triple H in singles matches on episodes of RAW, leading to a tag team match at Cyber Sunday with the fans choosing the special guest referee. At the event Edge and Orton gave DX their first loss as a tag team since they reunited when Eric Bischoff (the selected referee) allowed the use of a steel chair without calling for a disqualification.

The following night on RAW would see Rated RKO challenge Ric Flair and Roddy Piper for the World Tag Team Championship in which Eric Bischoff, who was RAW general manager for the night, appointed himself as the special guest referee and clearly officiated in Rated RKO's favor, counting fast during their pinfall attempts. However, the No-DQ stipulation would come back to haunt him; after Bischoff was knocked down by Flair, Orton had Flair in position for the RKO when DX stormed the ring. Shawn Michaels hit Orton with the Sweet Chin Music, and substitute referee Mike Chioda counted the winning pinfall for Flair.

As of the November 13 episode of RAW, WWE has referred to their Survivor Series team as being co-captained by "Rated RKO," making the name official. They also defeated Flair and Piper in a rematch from the previous week, sans DX intervention. Piper was taken out before the match began by a Con-chair-to by Edge, and was taken to the back. Edge scored the winning pinfall on Flair, beginning Rated RKO's first title reign as World Tag Team Champions.
