Ovidiu Petre, (born March 22, 1982 in Bucharest), is a Romanian football player who currently plays for Steaua Bucharest. He can play in various positions but he is mostly used a defensive midfielder. Many consider him a veritable talent, however numerous knee injures affected his career.

Petre was signed by Steaua in the last day of the summer transfer window in order to replace the injured Mirel Rădoi.

Club career

Petre is a product of FC Naţional and although he made his debut in the Divizia A during the 1999/2000 season, he assured himself a first team place only as Cosmin Olăroiu took over the reigns at the team in 2001. He changed clubs and moved to Galatasaray in 2003, where he spent one season before being brought to FCU Politehnica Timişoara when Cosmin Olăroiu took charge of the club in January 2005.

In August 2006, however, he is signed by Steaua Bucharest, where Petre joins Cosmin Olăroiu for once again.

International career

Petre won 13 caps for Romania and scored one goal.
