Chibiusa (ちびうさ) is a fictional character from the metaseries known as Sailor Moon. She is formally named Princess Usagi Small Lady Serenity Tsukino. Her nickname was given to her by Mamoru . This nickname is a combination of chibi (meaning runt, dwarf, shrimp) and her given name, Usagi. However in the future she's always called "Small Lady" by the Sailors, her mother and father. In the English-language adaptations, she is known as Rini, a diminutive form of the name Serena.

The character Chibiusa is a child from the 30th century, who visits the past first to save her mother then later to become a "real" Sailor Soldier. In the manga, it's mentioned in Original Volume 5 Act 20 that implied her growth was magically impeded, she is 900 years old. She later claims to be 902 (Chibiusa Picture Diary: Story of Hammer Price Shrine) Her exact age was not disclosed in the anime, and her time travelling complicates guessing. It can be estimated at approximately five years old when she is introduced (the candles on her birthday cake in one memory indicate so in Japanese Episode 85), and perhaps eleven or twelve when she returns later on.

In the manga, Chibiusa's first appearance is in Act 13, and Sailor Chibi Moon appears in Act 23. For the anime, Chibiusa first appears in Episode 60 of the anime, while Sailor Chibi Moon doesn't appear until Episode 103.

Sailor Chibi Moon

Sailor Chibi Moon is the embodiment of sweetness. As the daughter of Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask she exhibits traits of both parents in battle. While she has the lunar alignment of Sailor Moon she often uses many distraction techniques that Tuxedo Mask uses in the anime. She is the quintessential representation of the obligatory younger character found in many anime and manga.

In the manga her powers were far more significant than her anime counterpart--much of what she did actually destroyed and killed enemies. She attacks in tandem with Sailor Moon often combining attacks with her, though she did combine one attack with Tuxedo Mask. She also received her own prince where it was heavily indicated she would end up with him in the future. Specifically through Helios's dreams, saying they would meet again and indicating that Helios was her prince. She also develops and matures as a Sailor Soldier throughout the manga, getting her own Sailor team, the Sailor Quartet and eventually saving Sailor Moon's life.

In the anime she was made into more of a comic character that has little to no effect on her enemy. She used mainly distraction techniques and played a side role, instead of a role that was directly useful to the Sailors. While her powers were specifically based on Sailor Moon's in words, they were more like that of her father's--distractions. Pink Sugar Heart attack didn't kill anything like it did in the manga and she never linked her powers with her parents like she did in the manga. It is clear though that she does have some true raw power, as seen in Episode 81, and in the final battle sequences where she uses the Mystical Silver Crystal. Chibiusa, 5 years old

Chibiusa is the daughter of Usagi Tsukino and Mamoru Chiba, and was sent back in time to the "present" (Early 1990s AD) to stay with them before she was born. Her real name is the same as her mother's, but is called Chibiusa in Japanese (and Rini in English) to avoid confusion between the two. Her name in the English-language version of Sailor Moon, Rini, is a diminutive of "Serena", the name of her mother. She is known for having pink hair put into a unique style that resembles rabbit ears on top of her head. Chibiusa's hair is apparently actually pink, and not just colored that way for stylistic purposes; its color is stated in the poem on her Sailor Stars CD single. In the anime, several references are made about her hair color and even tease her about her pink hair.

Chibiusa is usually very upbeat, extroverted and outgoing. Though she started out socially awkward, she quickly became popular. Chibiusa's affections come into conflict because she generally does not immediately identify Usagi and Mamoru as being her parents from the future, although she is aware of the fact. There is evidence that Chibusa has a hard time identifying Usagi and Mamoru as being her future parents since she sees such a sharp contrast in personality between the entities. She also reacts differently toward Usagi and Mamoru than she does towards King Endymion and Neo-Queen Serenity, being more respectful to the latter but more spontaneous to the former; it is not clear if she prefers one set over the other. It is clear she has more friends in the 20th century rather than the 30th century and this plays into whether she will stay or go back to the future.

In the manga, she once became president of her class (Original Volume 12 Act 34). She gradually matures as the series goes on. Because her dream in the manga is to become a beautiful lady, her actions often are based around this. She tries to be a perfectionist and started off trying to do everything alone and for herself. This view evolves as she realizes what maturity really is and what it really means to be an adult.

In the anime, she's more judging and does not mature as much as her manga counterpart. She often picks on Usagi for Usagi not doing her homework and showing off her good grades. (Episode 153 , for example) This is not because she dislikes or hates Usagi, it's because they act more like siblings, and this is often commeted upon. (as seen in Episode 104 ).

Other Forms

Princess Usagi Small Lady Serenity

Often shortened by her parents and family friends to Small Lady, this is the name that Chibiusa of the future is known by. In Act 40 of the the manga, it is stated that when she is old enough she will become Princess Lady Serenity.

In the manga, this form appears more frequently and receives more explanation. It is the name given to her by her parents so she often uses this to identify herself in the future. The only other character to use it outside of the royal family and friends is Diana, who periodically calls her by Small Lady and then uses honorific endings to indicate she's a princess. Her princess form also appears in Artbook IV and the Materials Collection, in which she is drawn among the other Senshi in their specific gowns.

In the anime, it's not told where she got the name from, but again is only used by the royal family and friends. She mainly goes by Chibiusa, and even to the point where in the 20th century she asks Setsuna to call her Chibiusa instead of Small Lady. (Episode 115)

Black Lady

While visiting the future, Chibiusa becomes Black Lady (Wicked Lady in the english adaptation) when she is captured outside of the Palace. Wiseman converts her by laying the seeds of guilt for what she has done, and by telling her nobody loves her. Infected with the power of the Black Crystal, she grows older, donning a black dress and having hair even longer than Usagi's. Her crescent becomes that of the Black Moon Family, and she is frequently seen with Prince Demande or Wiseman.

• "Luna-P" ("Lunaball"/"Luna Sphere" in the DiC version) — The black, cathead-shaped ball that Chibiusa always has with her. She uses it for many different magical feats.

Transformations

• Moon Prism Power! Make-Up! — Used to transform into Sailor Chibi Moon. In the English anime, Rini does not say Make-up, and the phrase Mini Prism Power is used instead in some cases.
• Crisis! Make-Up! — (Manga only) Used to transform into Super Sailor Chibi Moon.
• Moon Crisis! Make-Up! — Used to transform into Super Sailor Chibi Moon. In the anime, she uses this transformation in conjunction with Sailor Moon. In the English version it is called Moon Cosmic Dream Action, or in SuperS movie Super Moon Crisis Power
• Pink Moon Crystal Power! Make-Up! — (Manga only) Used to transform into Sailor Chibi Moon.

Most of these transformations in the anime commonly involve the use of shiny red or pink ribbons that usually form the leotard, boots, and gloves. They, when de-transforming, form her civilian clothes, come out of the locket to wrap around her, or disappear.

Powers

• Abracadabra Pon! — Used to change Luna-P into various items. In the Japanese anime, this power was called Luna-P Henge. In the English anime it was called Kitty Magic.
• Luna-P Magic! — This is used in the anime to change Luna-P into something innocuous like flowers.
• Travelling Through Time — Chibiusa used a special incantation to call upon the Guardian of Time to open the Time Gate.
• Garlic Attack! — Chibiusa used her garlicy breath to attack a vampire in the manga. A variation of this was seen in the anime's SuperS special.
• Moon Princess Halation! — Chibiusa used this attack with Sailor Moon in the manga.

Sailor Chibi Moon uses her Pink Sugar Heart Attack against a Daimon in Episode 104

• Pink Sugar Heart Attack! — Chibiusa's first attack. It shoots pink hearts from her Pink Moon Stick, and in the anime is generally ineffective. It often lacks sufficient range to affect a monster (drooping to the ground), or fails to initiate at all. The damage it deals is the equivalent of a slap or spanking, and it is mostly useful only for distracting the enemy. She once powers it up enough to destroy several of Tellu's possessed plants.
• Double Sailor Moon Kick! A physical attack combo with Sailor Moon, unsuccessfully attempted in episode 107.
• Rainbow Double Moon Heart Ache! — A manga-only attack used by Sailor Moon and Sailor Chibi Moon.
• Pink Sugar Tuxedo Attack! — Used in combination with Tuxedo Mask. This attack is only used in the manga.
• Twinkle Yell! — In both the manga and the anime, this power is used to call upon Pegasus. In the English anime, this power is called Crystal Twinkle Bell or just Twinkle Bell.
• Moon Gorgeous Meditation! — In the manga, this attack was a team-up used by both Sailor Moon and Sailor Chibi Moon. It was also used in the anime but only once.
• Submarine Mirror! — (Manga only). Used by Chibi Moon to transport her to where Sailor Neptune is located.
• Starlight Honeymoon Double Therapy Kiss! — A team-up attack used in the manga by Sailor Chibi Moon and Eternal Sailor Moon to destroy the evil spirit possessing Hotaru Tomoe.
• Pink Ladies Freezing Kiss! — A team-up attack with the Sailor Quartetto in the manga.

• In the dub, Rini was first voiced by Tracey Hoyt in Sailor Moon R and the movies. In Sailor Moon S and SuperS, she was voiced by Stephanie Beard.
