Level 42 were an English pop band of the 1980s who throughout that decade had a number of hits in the UK and around the world.

The band members were.

  • Mark King - Vocals/Bass.
  • Mike Lindup - Keyboards/Vocals.
  • Boon Gould - Guitars.
  • Phil Gould - Drums.

Level 42 were formed in 1980 in Manchester as a Jazz-Funk fusion band. Although towards the end of the 1980s their sound had become more mainstream and commercial. Level 42 had their first hit in 1983 with the single "The sun goes down (Living it up)" which hit the British top ten. In 1986 after several smaller hits the band had a UK number one hit with the single "Lessons in love" and another big hit with the single "Something about you" which reached number seven in the US charts. Over the following few years they had more hits with the singles "Running in the family" "To be with you again" and "Staring at the sun" but these were only big hits in the UK, their 1987 album also called Running in the family was a best seller. The Gould brothers left the band in 1988. Level 42 still exist but havn't had a hit for a number of years.
