Rick Ross, (Born William Roberts in Carol City, Florida in 1977), is an American rapper from Carol City, in northern Miami-Dade County, Florida. He is signed with Slip-N-Slide, which as of 2006, is distributed under Def Jam Records. "Port of Miami", Rick Ross's album was released August 8, 2006. Rick Ross has stated that his inspirations for rapping are: Tupac, Ice Cube, Notorious B.I.G, and Trick Daddy. This is not surprising, as he is often compared to some of rap's most influential figures, and is considered a lyrical genius by residents of Dade-County. His use of rhetorical devices in his songs reveals his mastery of the english language. For example, he uses antistrophe (repetition of the same word or words at the end of successive phrases, clauses, or sentences) in the hit single "Hustlin'", in which he professes "Don't tote no 22s, magnum cost me 22, Sat it on them 22s, birds go for 22, Lil mama super thick, she say she 22, She seen them 22s, we in room 222". Lyrical specialists have blasted Ross, however, for his use of weaker rhymes, as in the same "Hustlin'" song in which he rhymes Atlantic (the ocean) with Atlantic (the record distribution company".
