Template:Infobox South Park episode "Jakovasaurs" is episode 305 of Comedy Central's animated series South Park. It originally aired on June 16, 1999.

Plot

Template:Spoiler The episode starts with the four boys sitting around a campfire near Starks Pond at night. Cartman is playing a harmonica and singing offensive songs about his friends, namely his "I hate you guys, especially Kenny" song. Cartman decides that he has to go and defecate; the boys tell him to just do it in the trees which Cartman is initially uncomfortable with. He sees something moving and the boys quickly run off after the creature.

Meanwhile, Jimbo and Ned are shown inside their house where Ned is frantically looking for his voice box. The boys attract Jimbo's attention by telling him they saw a strange creature and Jimbo follows them to a cage where the creature trapped itself. Everyone but Cartman thinks the creature is annoying.

The town has a meeting to decide on what to do about the creature when representatives from the Department of Interior (DOI) show up to educate the town that this is a rare "Jakovasaur" (pronounced "jack-off-asaur"), which they can use to help study and bring new life to the Jakovasaur race. The townspeople name the creature "Hope" despite its name actually being "Jun-jun."

Another Jakovasaur named "Jakov" makes itself known by seeking out Cartman, telling him he's looking for his wife Jun-Jun. Cartman, Kyle and Stan take Jakov to his wife in the barn where she's being held, but the townspeople hear them. The scene switches to Ned trying to order a new voice box by burp talking over the phone, but with no success. Jimbo arrives and informs Ned that his new voice box has arrived in the mail, however they quickly find out that the wrong model was sent and Ned is now speaking with an Irish accent. Jimbo and Ned are then informed that they've found another Jakovasaur.

It's decided that the Jakovasaurs will be given their own home in hopes that they will breed and give birth to more Jakovasaurs. However, problems arise when it's determined that both Jakov and Hope lack any genitalia (which may explain why they are nearly extinct). Dr. Mephisto instead takes semen from Jakov with a syringe and impregnates Hope with it. After only a matter of days, Hope gives birth to an entire litter of baby Jakovasaurs.

It's quickly determined that the Jakovasaurs are a major disruption to everyday life for the people of South Park, as the baby Jakovasaurs disrupt schoolwork in their classrooms. Jakov's clumsiness and loudness also annoys the other South Park fathers during the football game. Jakov cheers for the 49ers, when he should be cheering for the Denver Broncos. Jakov also keeps trying to tell a pointless story about a rabbit he saw while the dads are trying to focus on crucial events in the match. The DOI Reps sent to help repopulate the Jakovasaur species decide that they want to abandon their duties because of how annoying the Jakovasaurs are and make Cartman an official "Department of Interior Person", telling him he has authority and people should respect it.

The townspeople decide to come up with a way to get rid of the Jakovasaurs forever by fixing a game show so that Jakov will win a trip to France with "50 of his closest relatives." Ned is in the audience of the game show when Jimbo tells him that his new voice box has arrived. Jakov is placed against Officer Barbrady, who is told to make sure that he loses the game, with Mayor McDaniels reading out easy questions for Jakov to answer. Jakov doesn't know the answer to any of the questions and Barbrady continually answers all the questions correct. Mayor McDaniels eventually just declares: "The heck with it, Jakov wins!"

To distract Cartman, Kenny dresses up as an antelope while Stan and Kyle take Cartman to classify the "new species." Cartman quickly realizes that it's Kenny with branches on his head and the game show must therefore be a fix since they're distracting him. Cartman runs to tell Jakov, but finds it's too late, arriving at the airport as the plane carrying Jakov and his family taxis down the runway and eventually lifts off. Ned consoles Cartman with his new voice box which sounds a lot more clear and normal than his traditional monotone voice box. Ironically, Jimbo tells him that this new voice box sucks, and Ned agrees. The episode ends showing the Jakovasaurs on tour in France looking for "the pyramids" when Jakov trips and crashes into a cafe full of French people. Rather than getting annoyed, the French people instead laugh and remark on how he reminds them of Jerry Lewis.

Kenny's Death

He was killed by a bear while dressed up as an antelope.

Trivia

File:SouthPark305.gif
Junjun, one of the Jakovasaurs.
  • In syndication, the scene where the agents tell the Jakovasaurs how to have sex is removed.
  • The name "Jakovasaur" and more specifically the character's name "Jakov" are a parody of the slang term for masturbation: "Jack off." Throughout the episode, when the townspeople are annoyed by his antics, they sarcastically say, "Yes, that's very funny, Jakov."
  • The Jakovasaurs are a parody of Gungans from Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. When creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker first saw Jar Jar Binks advertised on a trailer for The Phantom Menace, they knew that people were going to hate him and find him annoying. The reaction of the South Park townspeople to the Jakovasaurs parodies what they figured the reaction to Jar Jar Binks would be in The Phantom Menace. The female Jakovasaur even speaks like Jar Jar Binks in the scenes that she appears in.
  • The first answer Jakov gives in the game show is forty seven. Due to the number of other Star Trek references in South Park, this might not be a coincidence.
  • Ned's last voice box sounds a lot more more clear than his normal voice box, but both he and Jimbo agrees that it sucks. This is ironic because in "The Mexican Staring Frog of Southern Sri Lanka", it is shown that this is how Ned sounded before needing a voice box.
  • Though everyone in South Park (except Cartman) finds the Jakovasaurs irritating and unfunny, French people are shown to be instantly enraptured by the creatures' pratfalls. This is a reference to Jerry Lewis, whose broad physical comedy is similarly held to be widely beloved in France, much to the bafflement of his fellow Americans.
  • This episode mocks environmentalists and their protection of endangered species at any cost.
  • "Its" is misspelled "it's" at the end of the episode.
  • The DOI people frequently, in order, say, "Fine, Just fine, just fine, fine." After they deputize Cartman with "authoritah", he takes to saying the entire phrase by himself.
  • Based on the backpack Jakov found, Cartman lives on 21208 E. Bonanza Circle.
