Ben was born in 1960 in Seattle, Washington.

He attended James A. Garfield High School in Seattle, Northwestern University, and worked at Microsoft for 14 years, along with short stints at IBM and Amazon.com.

He is currently Chairman and Co-Founder of SchoolSoft and is a Director of Vizrea and TeachFirst.
