Khaglanwala[ڪھگلانواله] is a village and union council of Isakhel Tehsil of Mianwali District in the Punjab province of Pakistan.[1] It is part of Isakhel Tehsil and is located at 32°37'60N 71°16'0E.[2]It is located on the northern bank of Kurram River. It is one of the villages situated on the western borders of Punjab province adjacent to KPK province. It is a large village of about 3000 population. It is a comparatively developed village. The facilities like electricity, telephone, road, internet, schools, water supply system and sewerage system are provided in the village. It is relatively a well-planned village. It is situated on a 40 feet wide (18' metallic) road. A 30 feet main street runs through the village from East to West which equally divides the entire village into two parts. Three other streets run north to southwards crossing the main street. There are four mosques including a grand mosque in this settlement. The scene of river Kurram and jungle gives a beautiful look to this historical village. The village is situated at central location because the rout for all the villages (situated beyond the River Kurram) to Isa Khel passes through this village.

Etymology

The name “Khaglanwala” was given due to the tree “Khagal”[ English: Tamarisk, Other local languages: Ghaz] which were found in a large number, in this village. But, at present, hardly a few old Khagal trees can be found in the village.

History

Present Khaglanwala was rehabilitated on a new nearby land after destruction (due to erosion) of old Khaglanwala some 110 years ago by the River Kurram. This Village was founded by the people of Mammun Khel clan of Isa Khel Niazies after defeat in their battle with Khan Zaman Zako Khel and Sardar Jehan Khan Popalzai, the commander of Ahmad Shah Abdali, in 1748. It is a center of Ahmad Khel, Khizar Khel,Azeem Khel and Naurang Khel branches of Mammun Khel Tribe. The village became a Union Council in the sixties due to its central position in the area.

Language

Local people speak Saraiki(سرائكى) Language.

Inhabitants

Majority of residents of the village are Niazies and Awans (Jats). The notable Niazi sub-trabes are Ahmad Khels, Khizar Khels, Naurang Khels and Azeem Khels. A few houses of Qureshies, Syeds, Kaneras (Weavers), Tarkhans (Carpenters), Lohars (Blacksmiths) and other craftsmen like Mirasies (drummers) and Kumhars (Pot makers) are also present there. Some Hindu families also lived in this village in the pre-partition era and migrated to India in 1946.
