On standardisation

Wangi - please dont remove the map [which is free] or links without good cause. You did not improve the article. R Pollack

The map is not free - you've taken a screen grab from Google Maps or something similar, I can assure you that is not free data.
I have moved the coordinate data into using a standard template. The choice of diplaying it in the title bar is an arbitrary one - it can also be displayed inline using the {{coor dms}} template.
Please see WP:EL on guidelines about external links, and WP:ISNOT for the policy of what Wikipedia isn't... Wikipedia isn't a travel guide. Thanks/wangi 10:08, 18 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Further on the map... Please see Commons:Licensing and Commons:Copyright tags for more info on this. I've linked to the Commons version of these pages since that's where the image is uploaded. Thanks/wangi 10:16, 18 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wangi

Remove the link to the Google image by all means. You should not have removed the link to the annotated map. That is a valuable resource for people reading the article. It is free, available to all and not copyright.

I see nothing in the wikipedia rules on external links to justify removing them.

Your changes to the image display made the article look a mess.

Your changes appear to be motivated by sheer bloody mindedeness. I can see no evidence that you have contributed anything of value to this article in the past. I suggest you try and make a positive contribution in future. R Pollack

Thanks for assuming good faith. I have (re)made a number of edits:
  1. Removed the copyright violation google maps screen grab.
  2. Removed the external link to local.live.com — the coordinates link to a list of multiple map sources. And by the way, the content on local.live.com is very much copyrighted, but that's not the issue here (it is fine to link too, it's better to link to an unbiased list of sources).
  3. Reformatted the references as a bullet list.

Are you sure about the link to the annotated map? whenever i try it i just get one map with multiple pushpins. would u like to try again?

if you do not get the map please describe more fully what u do see. try clicking on some of the pushpins.

I note that wikipedia states that it wants more maps. if wikipedia has a better map making tool i will use it; otherwise i seems best to use one of the many very good tools available elsewhere. live local is not perfect but it does have very high resolution aerial photos of new lanark.

i created the map content so if there is a copyright it may be mine. if it is i release it to the public domain. however, whenever we link to another web page we link to copyright material. as long as we do not steal it that should not be a problem.

i think the map adds a lot of value to the article. words are not enough in an article about a location. unless there are rules against its inclusion i think it should be in.

i am not sure if the coordinates are in the right location [or large enough]. i am also not sure about the format. which format would be better for gps users?

BTW i dont assume good or bad faith. i just judge people by their words and actions.
