Pochama (ポッチャマ, Potchama) are one of the Template:Pokenum fictional species of Pokémon creatures from the multi-billion-dollar[1] Pokémon media franchise – a collection of video games, anime, manga, books, trading cards and other media, created by Satoshi Tajiri. Pochama is famous for being one of the Pokémon revealed before the Japanese release of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. The purpose of Pochama in the games, anime and manga, as with all other Pokémon, is to battle both wild Pokémon, untamed creatures encountered while the player passes through various environments, and tamed Pokémon owned by Pokémon trainers.[2]

On August 5 2006, Pochama was presented as one of the starters in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, alongside Naetle, a Grass-type tortoise, and Hikozaru, a Fire-type monkey.

Pochama is characterised of a penguin.

Pochama knows Bubble.

Its name may be a portmanteau of the Japanese words "pocchan" and "shamo", meaning "rookie fighting bird".[3] It's name may also come from the Japanese word "pochapocha", meaning both to splash in water and to have a plump appearance.
