Hugh Mercer (circa 1720-January 3, 1777) was an officer in the Continental Army in the American Revolutionary War.

Born in Aberdeen, Scotland he attended the University of Aberdeen, studying medicine. He was assistant surgeon in the army of Prince Charles Edward in 1745. In 1747 he settled in Mercersburg, Pennsylvania. He was wounded in General Edward Braddock's army in 1755. In 1776, at the request of General George Washington, he was commissioned a brigadier general. He died from wounds suffered at the Battle of Princeton.

Mercer County, Ohio is named for him.
