Ambassador S. Azmat Hassan (Ret.), M.A., M.Sc., is a former Ambassador of Pakistan and currently a Senior Faculty Associate of the John C. Whitehead School of Diplomacy and International Relations at Seton Hall University, specializing in Middle Eastern studies.

Education

Ambassador Hassan holds an M.A. in Economics from Cambridge University and an M.Sc. in Strategic Studies from Quaid-E-Azam University in Islamabad, Pakistan.

Civil Service

His distinguished 33-year career includes postings within the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Prime Minister's Office as Director-General for Afghanistan, Additional Secretary of the Middle East Division, and Additional Secretary to the Prime Minister of Pakistan for Foreign Affairs and Defense. He also served as a career diplomat for the Pakistani foreign service in many capacaties, including Deputy Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations, and later, Ambassador of Pakistan to Malaysia, Syria, and Morocco

Whitehead School

Ambassador Hassan joined the Whitehead School in the Fall of 2000 following the end of his Pakistani civil service career. He has represented the Whitehead School in numerous conferences and serves on the boards of organizations including the New Jersey Division of the UNA-USA, the Center for War/Peace Studies, and the Center for UN Reform Education. A frequent commentator on international affairs for television and radio, Ambassador Hassan also writes widely on foreign affairs for the international press. His articles and perspectives appear regularly in the Daily Record, the Star-Ledger and Dawn.

Lahore University of Management Sciences

Currently (May-July 2006) Ambassador Hassan is a visiting faculty at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) where he is teaching two courses - SS 3212 Politics of International Terrorism and SS 3213 US invlovement in the Middle East.
