Panda is a character in the Tekken fighting game series. She is, as her name implies, a Giant Panda. She is the loyal pet, best friend, and bodyguard of Ling Xiaoyu. She has the same fighting style as Kuma, Heihachi Mishima's pet grizzly bear, who seems to have a crush on her. Like Xiaoyu, Panda made her debut in Tekken 3.

History

Tekken 3

She is cared for at Ling Xiaoyu's high school. To participate in the tournament, Ling moved to the Mishima Industrial College in Japan. Heihachi taught Panda advanced bear fighting so that she could act as a bodyguard for Xiaoyu during the tournament. Although Kuma is fond of Panda, she dislikes him and keeps her distance.

Tekken 4

Panda is no longer just an alternate costume of Kuma and is given her own story. In this story, it chronicles Panda as missing Kuma somewhat and throughout her prologue is seen thinking about Kuma. In her Tekken 4 ending she hands over control of the Mishima Zaibatsu to Ling, then calling Ling over to an abandoned wrestling ring. She then explains to Ling that she has decided to search for Kuma on her own and wishes for Ling to do the same with Jin.

Tekken 5

After the conclusion of the King of Iron Fist Tournament 4, Ling Xiaoyu had been feeling down. Panda, worried about Ling, was searching for a way to cheer Ling up decided the best approach would be to find Jin Kazama. Panda tried various methods but was unable to find Jin. One day, Ling burst into the room excited. "Panda, I've decided to enter the King of Iron Fist Tournament 5 and I need your help once again". Panda didn't quite understand Ling's reason for entering the tournament but decided to help if it would make her happy.

Trivia

  • Panda's intro and ending cannot be unlocked merely by beating the game with Kuma; the player must go through the game with her to unlock it.
  • Panda was merely a costume swap for Kuma in Tekken 3 and Tekken 5.
