James Lane Buckley (b. March 9 1923 in New York CIty) was a Senator for the Conservative Party of New York State from January 3 1971 to January 3 1977, vice president and director of the Catawa Corporation from 1953 until until 1970, and president of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty 19821985.

A graduate from Yale University in 1943 , he enlisted the United States Navy in 1942 and was discharged with the rank of lieutenant in 1946. In 1950 he was admitted to the Connecticut bar and practiced law until 1953, when he joined Catawba as a vice president and director. He was elected as the Conservative Party candidate in 1970 and served until 1977, failing to be reelected both in New York that year and in Connecticut in 1980. After leaving RFE/RL in 1985, he served as a federal judge for the United States Court of Appeals until 1996. He currently resides in Washington, D.C..
