Article Improvement Drive
Article Improvement Drive

This week's football improvement drive is part of the WikiProject on Football and is a weekly collaboration to improve football (soccer) articles to featured article status. Past collaborations are found on the history page, while removed nominations may be found on the removed nominations page. Previous winners that have gone on to become featured articles can be found at Featured collaborations.

Nomination and voting

Articles to be improved can be nominated by registered users in the "nominations" section below, with an explanation of what work is needed. To nominate an article, you can copy the template that you will below. Please do not nominate articles involved in edit wars. Each Sunday, the article with the most support votes is chosen. Opposing votes are not counted, the nomination is an approval voting. In case of a tie, the candidate that was nominated first wins. Articles need three votes per week to stay on the list. You can vote for as many articles as you like. As with any other vote on Wikipedia, sockpuppets are banned.

Renominating

An article that is removed from the nominations list for failing to receive the required number of votes by the stipulated date cannot be renominated till one month after the date it is moved to the removed nominations page.

Considerations for nominations

  • Giving reasons as to why an article should become the Football AID may convince others to cast their vote.
  • Can the wider football community easily contribute to the article? Or is it something only a small number of people will know about?

Nominations

The next project article is to be selected on Sunday 11 June.

Please add new nominations at the bottom of the page.

Nominated May 24 2006; needs at least 9 votes by 14 June 2006
Reason:

They'll be playing Premiership football next year, yet most of their "Notable Players" and Managers have no articles, the captains list go's back to 1996 only, and their history has nothing before 1977. For a top-division team, one-time FA cup finalists and one-time UEFA cup participants, surely this can improve.

Nominated June 2 2006; needs at least 6 votes by June 16 2006
Reason:

Article consists pretty much only of a list of players. There is no history section, should make a good collaboration.

Nominated 4 June 2006; needs at least 6 votes by 18 June 2006
Reason:

At best I was dissapointed to find how poor this article is when it is on the oldest survivng national football competition in the world, their should be swathes of information, and history on this article.

Comments:
  1. It is not "the oldest surviving competition in the world". That honour goes to the FA Cup which commenced in 1871-72. Alias Flood 01:35, 5 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    1. My apologies, I've now changed it. Philc TECI 17:25, 5 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    2. Can we say that this is "the oldest surviving competition in the world for national teams"? Kingjeff 02:16, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    3. Yes, I'm pretty sure this is the oldest NT football competition in the world. Bruno18 20:25, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    4. The first international football match was played in 1872 between England and Scotland, although at this stage the sport was rarely played outside Great Britain. As football began to increase in popularity, it was held as a demonstration sport (with no medals awarded) at the 1900 and 1904 Summer Olympics, and at the 1906 Intercalated Games football became an official competition at the 1908 Summer Olympics. To be correct, it would need to qualify itself as being a national event and outside the olympics. -- Alias Flood 03:49, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    5. Look, if you thinks it wrong, change the article, don't just post here, this is why it needs improvement, if its this wrong. Philc TECI 17:27, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    6. I was responding to the question posed by Kingjeff. Alias Flood 23:52, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    7. I was just looking for a yes or no. Kingjeff 00:35, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Nominated June 9 2006; needs at least 3 votes by June 16 2006
Reason:

Very important player both in Italy (top scorer in 2001/02, 95 goals in 151 matches with Juventus) and with the French team (31 goals in 60 matches, golden goal for the 2000 EuroCup, etc), and also listed in the FIFA 100 best players list. Other than the info box, the article is almost empty.
