2: or a dois: is a Portuguese Television broadcasting service of the RTP network. Commonly referred as the "Second Channel", this historically state-run broadcast service was created in the early 80's as an alternative to the mainstream broadcasting service of RTP. 2: is presently the only of several portuguese national/international channels that has a strict cultural and educational programme. In early 2003(?), a policy was introduced by the State as to create a public advertising-free televison service. 2: is the only broadcaster from Portugal that presently plays programmes without interruption, intervals or inline messaging. The 2: broadcasting programme is dedicated to world-wide recognized quality televison content, institutional EU/National programmes or advertising, cinematography, documentary films, theatre and classical music. This channel gets about 5%-7% of the national audience (2005).
