When Meg lands an internship with Mayor Adam West, Brian argues that he's corrupt. Determined to expose his shady ways, Brian and Stewie go undercover and discover that Meg is in deeper than they thought as she is engaged in an innocent, yet secret, relationship with the mayor. Meanwhile, a local talent show brings Peter and Lois back to their folk singing days. Unfortunately, they also revert back to their hippie ways, smoking joints to conjure ideas for songs. Oblivious in their high state, Peter and Lois horribly blunder their performance at the show and Chris must intervene.
Cultural references
- In the opening scene, we see a clip from a TV show where a lady finds the Scarecrow from The Wizard of Oz, who has been attacked by drug dealers saying "They tore my legs off, and they threw them over there! Then they took my chest out, and they threw it over there!", which is the same quote in the movie version.
- When Lois mentioned about Peter's part-time jobs, the cutaway shows Peter in his Burger King uniform singing the infamous "Burger King Christmas Carol", a internet meme. Peter stands straight while singing, the advertisements and menu are also placed the same as the Flash animation.
- When Cleveland smashes Brian's taxi cab for a revenge, he was caught and morph into a black panther then ran away. An obvious reference on Michael Jackson's music video "Black Or White".
- When Brian is looking to find dirt on Mayor West, he meets and informer, who turns out to be Kermit the Frog of The Muppets fame.
- A Noid attempts to ruin Mayor West's pizza. During the 1980's, Domino's Pizza had an advertising campaign where a small man dressed in a tight suit known as a "noid" always attempted to ruin Domino's pizzas but never succeeded.
- One of the cartoons Mayor West loves is the 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon, as its theme song is heard inside Mayor West's motel room. Another is the 80s cartoon Jem.
- The title "Deep Throats" refers to W. Mark Felt, who was a source for Washington Post reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein, who leaked information about the involvement of U.S. President Richard Nixon's administration in various misdeeds under the pseudonym Deep Throat, which soon led to the Watergate scandal. Kermit the Frog also goes by the pseudonym Deep Throat when contacting Brian to hand out dirt on Mayor West.
- The cutaway with Stewie Cruise on Oprah is a parody of Tom Cruises interview with Oprah on May 23, 2005. That same interview will be parodied in Scary Movie 4 which comes out 5 days after this episode originally aired.
