The Liberal Democrats are a liberal (in the European sense) political party based in the United Kingdom.

In the last general elections (May 2001) they have been gaining seats in the House of Commons, mainly from the Conservative party.

They are currently led by Charles Kennedy, who replaced Paddy Ashdown.
