Nienburg is a town in the Bernburg district in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. It is located in the lower Saale valley. In June 2005 its population was 4,449.

The first mention of Nienburg in travel reordings date from 961. About a quarter of the medieval centre of the town is occupied by the Benedictine monastery. The church of the monastery was inaugurated in 1004; at the same time Nienburg became a market town.

In 1623, during the Thirty Years' War, the town was destroyed. In 1825 a suspension bridge over the river Saale was constructed, but because of unforeseen movements it tore during the inauguration festivities, resulting in over a hundred casualties.
