Shichimi togarashi(7 つのスパイス in Japanese) is a Japanese condiment or spice used in a variety of Japanese cooking. Literally translated it is known as 'seven spice red pepper'. It typically contains red chilli flakes, Japanese pepper (called sansho or togarashi), white sesame seads, mustard seeds (replacing traditional black sesame seads), dried nori seaweed, dried tangerine or mandarin peel, and white poppy seeds. It is also known as 'hichimi togarashi'.
