Capote is an Academy Award-nominated 2005 biographical film that follows Truman Capote (portrayed by Philip Seymour Hoffman) on a writing assignment for The New Yorker. Plot

Template:Spoiler The movie opens with Capote a New York celebrity for his previous works. While reading the papers, he comes across a story of the murder of an entire family in Kansas and calls his editor to suggest he wants to write about it.

He travels to Kansas with his childhood friend Harper Lee, and sets about interviewing persons involved with the victims, the Cutter family, with Lee as his go-between and interpreter of rural life. When the murderers are apprehended, Truman ingratiates himself with the wife of the town's sherriff and gains access to one of the suspects, Perry Smith. Truman spends the next five years writing his masterpiece, waiting the outcome of the trials and appeals and eventual punishment of Smith and his partner in crime.
