Carl Wernicke

Carl Wernicke (born 1848 in Tarnowitz, Silesia, Germany, died 1905 in Gräfenroda) was a German physician, anatomist, psychiatrist and neuropathologist. He discovered that the left posterior, superior temporal gyrus subserved language comprehension. This region is now referred to as Wernicke's area for his discovery.
