Hello...

I am the author of most of the text for this page, and I just make an edit about the naming convention for the USC football team, explaining why "Southern Cal" is not the appropriate name for this team. Since I am a new user and not very familiar with Wikipedia conventions (this is the first page that I've contributed to), I wanted to see what the appropriate way to get the page renamed was.

Thanks! TheRubal

If you are a logged in user, you can use the Move button to move it to a more appropriate name, which should be University of Southern California Trojans football. But if you do the move, then click on "What links here" to make sure that you clean up any double redirects that ensue. Zoe 07:09, August 28, 2005 (UTC)

Hi Zoe,

The system tells me that I have not been a user long enough to be able to move a page. Also, given that the University media guide says it's appropriate to refer to the team as "USC" and given the length of your proposed name, would it be OK to retain the previous name, USC football or something along the lines of Trojan football? Thanks! TheRubal

Zoe,

Thanks for the clarification on the policy of which players to include. --TheRubal

You should be able to move now, the limitation is to prevent newly-minted vandals, and it's a very low threshold. USC football would probably be a conflict with University of South Carolina, wouldn't it? How about USC Trojans football? And the players isn't policy, just precedent. If you can make a strong argument to keep them, then you could win a debate, but it would have to be pretty strong. Zoe 20:20, August 28, 2005 (UTC)

I took care of this move. "USC Trojans Football" is a bit convoluted, considering there aren't any articles about any of the other USC teams. In general, I think this article should be "USC Trojans" (since it is the most notable team by that name) and then, say, if you wanted an article about the basketball team, call it "USC Trojans (basketball)". Or alteratively, if several notable USC teams get articles, turn this one into an article on USC athletics as a whole and move the current content to "USC Trojans (football)". -- Tyler 04:25, 8 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I think the title is a bit misleading as "USC Trojans". I think the title needs to somehow mention the football team. 'USC Trojan Football' is a much better name than the current, in my opinion. "USC Trojans" can refer to anything from the mascot to the students to the athletic teams. Thoughts? IanMcGreene 05:26, September 8, 2005 (UTC)
I agree. "USC Trojan Football" sounds better than "USC Trojans Football," and seems to be more grammatically correct. Also, should "football" be capitalized? In Category:College football teams, some articles have "football" capitalized while others don't, and some don't even have "football" in the title of the article at all. I personally think that "football" shouldn't be capitalized in this case. Any thoughts? Kamezuki 03:58, 26 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Warning: A Homer Made this page

This message is more to Wikipedia than to the USC alum/fan/donor/ball-washer that created this page. Can we please get somebody to write about these ass clowns rather than somebody who jerks off to Matt Leinart's highlight tape? While it is undisputed that USC is the best team of the 21st century and its likely 3rd straight title is without a doubt unprecedented, how about a little objectivity? It was convenient of the asshole who made this page to completely have the entire 1990s skip his mind, save for that miraculous victory over the Mildcats in Pasadena circa 1996. Please, give me a break. This guy clearly had one hand on the keyboard, one hand on the media guide and another on his throck as he wrote this encyclopedia entry. If I didn't think better, I'd believe that je was on the Trojans payroll. this is by no means an encyclopedia entry, it reads like am emcee's introduction should USC somehow win the 2005 Greatest Thing Since DVR'd Porno award. Give me objecttive, give me facts. Don't give me "heralded, yet unproven redshirt sophomore Matt Leinart" or "Carson Palmer imprressed so many pundits." God, I this made me want to throw up like the high school prom queen just after dinner.

Clarifications

All of those who have been arguing that AP polls, etc. can not determine the national champion need to keep in mind that the BCS is just as independent from the NCAA as anything else is, and the BCS national championship is just as unofficial as any other. appzter 01:25, 5 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
