The Ten Gurus are the great teachers of Sikhism.

The basic tenet was to wean people away from the caste system predominant in India. Another thing advocated was "no idol worship". Sikhism believes that God is inside a person, rather than stones and symbols.

The Gurus taugh the path of enlightenment to the disciples.

The gurus were:

Guru Nanak Dev
Guru Angad Dev
Guru Amar Das
Guru Ram Das
Guru Arjan Dev
Guru Hargobind
Guru Har Rai
Guru Har Krishan
Guru Teg Bahadur
Guru Gobind Singh

The perpetual and current Guru of the Sikhs is the Guru Granth Sahib, which is sometime referred to as the Holy Book of the Sikhs.
