Hades Project Zeorymer (冥王計画ゼオライマー in kanji, Meiou Keikaku Zeorymer in romaji), is the title of the four-episode OVA anime series, directed by Toshihiro Hirano and produced by AIC Studios. it was released in Japan in 1988.

Plot

Set in the near future, a secret feudal monarchy led by an empress and named "Tekkuryu" uses as a front a firm "International Electronic Brains" and has built a set of eight giant robots. One of them, named Zeorymer, has been stolen so as to be used against Tekkuryu. In the course of the story, Tekkuryu gratuitously demolishes the skyscraper headquarters of IEB in China, but this does not hinder Zeorymer's defeating the other seven machines.

The main character is a teenaged boy, fifteen-year-old Masato, who had been genetically designed to pilot Zeorymer. He was raised by functionaries who told him that they were his parents but coldly abandoned him and counted their money when he achieved the age that he could be used by another organization antagonistic to Tekkuryu. He must pilot the craft with "Miku," a teenaged girl.

Notes and Trivia

The name Tekkuryu means "technical-center dragon." The machines are named after one set of Sino-Japanese mythological elements which has eight components (fire, water, mountain, lightning, etc.). One scene is set in "Aoshibara," a forest renowned for suicides in Japan.

Super Robot Wars

Zeorymer has been a relatively obscure title even in Japan, as its reviews were generally lukewarm. However its appearance in Super Robot Wars MX, yet one of many in a series of very popular anime mecha crossover games, Zeorymer was an incredibly powerful unit. So much so that players of the game widely consider it to be broken(A term used by gamers to denote a character who is so much more potent than other characters in the said game that it disturbs the power balance), as well as the biggest factor in making the games' difficulty among the easiest in the series. Its dreaded "Mei-Oh" Attack is easy to bring out and can one hit kill almost any enemy in the game for minimal cost. The powerful Zeorymer unit caused many in Japan and Super Robot Wars' small but dedicated foreign following to seek out the title and pull it out of obscurity.
