Young Buck
David Darnell Brown is a performer under the nameYoung Buck was born March 15, 1981, in Nashville, Tennessee. He is a member of the G-Unit hip-hop music clique.
Before joining G-Unit, Brown was a drug dealer in Nashville. Tired of the hustler's way of living, Brown tried his hand at rapping and in 2000, he and his long time partner D-Tay signed to Next Level Records, releasing Thuggin' Til The End. Unhappy with his record deal, he broke off and joined ex-Cash Money Records rapper Juvenile and his group UTP. Brown began to tour with them and while on a business trip to New York City, he met Lloyd Banks, Tony Yayo, and 50 Cent, and the latter signed him on G-Unit Records. His first major appearance was on 50's multi-platinum record Get Rich or Die Tryin' on the track "Bloodhound".
Brown represents what he calls the "Dirty South" and uses Southern slang in all his music. He points this out in the G-Unit song "Betta Ask Somebody" when he says "I'ma country boi, you can hear it when I speak".
His first solo album Straight Outta Cashville, a reference to the famous N.W.A. album Straight Outta Compton, was released on July 27, 2004. It included the singles "Let Me In" and "Shorty Wanna Ride", and debuted at #3 on the Billboard charts.
On Tuesday, November 16, 2004, Santa Monica Police released a warrant for Brown's arrest in relation to a stabbing incident at the 2004 Vibe Awards. Dr. Dre was assaulted by Jimmy James Johnson, and Brown jumped in to support Dre. Videos showed Brown lunging at Johnson with a knife in his hand. Brown was charged with assault with a deadly weapon. He surrendered to police on November 20.
On August 9, 2005, Brown was again arrested, along with his colleague Lloyd Banks, and charged with gun possession after a concert in New York. This occurred after a van he was riding in with 10 other men was stopped for running a red light and two loaded guns were found by police. Although Brown was not specifically carrying a gun, all occupants of the vehicle were charged.
