This article is about the creatures known as Weapons in the Final Fantasy video game series. For items that characters equip in the series, see Category:Final Fantasy weapons.

The Weapons are biomechanical monsters in the Final Fantasy series. They have been a main feature in the series since the sixth installment. They are generally very powerful and have large amounts of HP, relative to other monsters in the game, and are usually presented as powerful optional bosses.

Omega appears as an optional boss close to the end of Final Fantasy V. Although the name "Weapon" is not yet affixed to his title, he bears many similarities to later Weapons, and was to reappear as Omega Weapon in Final Fantasy VIII.

The Weapon in Final Fantasy VI was Ultima Weapon (renamed Atma Weapon in the North American localization). Ultima Weapon has 24,000 hit points and is located on the Floating Continent. A much stronger version can fought as an optional battle in Kefka's Tower. Here, it is called Ultima Blaster (renamed Atma in the North American localization), and it has 55,000 hit points.

Final Fantasy VII

Template:Spoiler In Final Fantasy VII there are five Weapons. These are Sapphire WEAPON, Ultimate WEAPON, Diamond WEAPON, Emerald WEAPON, and Ruby WEAPON. Unlike many games in the series, the Weapons play a major role in the Final Fantasy VII storyline. According to the game, the Weapons were created by the Planet as a self-defense mechanism to deal with the Jenova problem, but they were trapped underneath the ice at the Northern Crater. When Meteor was summoned by Sephiroth, each of the WEAPONs was activated. Their only reason to exist is to protect the planet by "reducing everything to nothingness". A sixth weapon known as the Omega WEAPON is said to exist but was not awakened by the Meteor incident. It apparently is awoken sometime during Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII.

Little is known about Sapphire WEAPON beyond its destruction at the hands of Shin-Ra's Sister Ray at Junon. Much like the Emerald WEAPON, it was an aquatic WEAPON. Before being destroyed, the WEAPON launches an attack on Junon which allows Tifa to escape from the gas chamber. Note that the name Sapphire was not actually mentioned in the game, but it was confirmed in an official collectible figurine release  1   2 .

Ultimate WEAPON

When released, Ultimate WEAPON is found flying in the air all over the world map. When it took off the Northern Crater it landed in the mountains near Junon and impacted with such force that it created a large impact crater so deep it actually struck ground water. He is first encountered in Mideel, when Cloud is found after falling into the Lifestream. After this battle he continues to fly around. He is unable to be battled when flying, however if he is knocked into by the Highwind a few times he will eventually stop and hover. When he is touched whilst hovering, a battle will commence. Each time he is beaten he will fly around again. Once he has been defeated for the last time (over the Ancient Forest, near Cosmo Canyon), Cloud's Ultima Weapon is recieved and Ultimate WEAPON will fall out of the sky forming a small crater allowing the player to gain entrance to the Ancient Forest without the aid of a Chocobo.

Diamond WEAPON

Diamond WEAPON is encountered by the party when it is traveling towards Midgar, a battle that is only available in North American and International version of the game. The WEAPON appears out of the water and starts to travel towards the city of Midgar. The party intercepts it and engages it in combat. Despite "defeating" the WEAPON, they do not kill it, and WEAPON walks away apparently unphased, sensing "murder". The Sister Ray, relocated from Junon to Midgar, is fired and its blast obliterates the Diamond WEAPON, as well as destroying the shield around the Northern Crater. Moments before it is mortally wounded by the cannon, Diamond WEAPON releases a barrage of energy bolts at Midgar, which strike parts of Shin-Ra tower, almost killing Rufus Shin-Ra, CEO of Shin-Ra inc.

Ruby WEAPON

Ruby WEAPON was a special addition to the North American and International versions of Final Fantasy VII and can be fought in an optional battle. It can be found in the Corel desert outside of the prison after Ultimate Weapon was killed for good. The player needs to run into the Ruby WEAPON's tentacles with either the Highwind or a Golden Chocobo to initiate the battle. It has approximately 1,000,000 hit points and will drop the Desert Rose, an item that can be traded to the treasure collector in Kalm for a Golden Chocobo.

Emerald WEAPON

Emerald WEAPON was another special addition to the North American and International versions of Final Fantasy VII and can also be fought optionally. It is located underwater in between each of the continents. When the player gains access to the Shin-Ra submarine, it can be used to prowl the ocean for the Emerald WEAPON at the end of Disc 2 or on Disc 3 of the game. It also has about 1,000,000 hit points, and without the special Underwater materia, the battle has a time limit of 20 minutes. Emerald WEAPON will drop the Earth Harp, which can be traded in Kalm for the Master Magic, Master Command, and Master Summon materia. It should be noted that with both Ruby and Emerald weapons, by the time one achieves a party capable of defeating either, the rewards the monsters drop are available anyway.

Omega WEAPON

Omega WEAPON is said to appear in Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII and is claimed to be a sixth WEAPON that was not activated by the Meteor incident. It is apparently awoken during the events of the game. If previous Omega incarnations are any example this Omega weapon will most likely be grey and black in color.

Final Fantasy VIII

In Final Fantasy VIII there are two Weapons: Ultima Weapon and Omega Weapon. Because of the game's leveling up system, the Weapons are more powerful if the party members are at higher levels. Ultima Weapon can be found at the Deep Sea Research Center and has up to about 100,000 hit points. Omega Weapon can be found at Ultimecia's Castle and has hit points that can total over 1,000,000.

Final Fantasy X

Final Fantasy X also features both Ultima Weapon and Omega Weapon. Both are located at the Omega Ruins – a secret location in the world of Spira. A third enemy, Nemesis, uses the same model as the two Weapons, but does not technically have the surname Weapon. Nemesis is the most powerful boss in the game (aside from Penance in the International version) and can only be fought after capturing every monster required for the Arena as well as defeating every creation in the Arena.

Final Fantasy X-2

Both Ultima Weapon and Omega Weapon return in Final Fantasy X-2, this time as regular enemies. An optional boss, Paragon uses the same graphics model as Ultima and Omega despite the fact Paragon does not have Weapon in his name.

Final Fantasy: Dawn of Souls

Omega appears as one of the bosses in one of the optional dungeons in Final Fantasy , while Ultima appears in Final Fantasy II's "Soul of Rebirth" also as an optional boss.

Final Fantasy Unlimited

In the anime series Final Fantasy Unlimited, Omega was a enity whose very movement can wipe out a world. Its body was scattered to the four winds in the form of crystals. However, these crystals "awaken" and take on monsterous forms to search for its 'siblings' and absorb them to reform Omega. Lisa and the Hayakawa twins enounter the pieces of Omega that form its Nail (around the time they meet Lou Lupus), Hair (when Chobi became Ciel), and Fin (which destroyed the Ghost Train).

Ai would eventally encounter the most important piece of Omega, its Heart. Named Clear, he posseses a human-form and is covered with Flying Water, the only known material to curb Omega's unstable power. The Earl learned of this as he sent his forces to gather Omega's pieces to recreate the enity under his control.
