Wikipedia is a fun site: my love of films allows me fun to act as an amateur historian without the heated discussions or trolling on most message boards (I tend to register on a devoted forum for a specific subject). Certainly it allows me to dip in and out of my favourite fictional universes if I feel bored, and I have strict adherence to guidelines: they always provide logic. I came here first for help regarding Doctor Who's mythology. I tend to work a lot on film articles, and hopefully all my favourites will be GA or FA one day. I keep track of a lot of future movies, which are easier to maintain than past films due to the steady flow of new citations, and work on articles depending on say, an upcoming anniversary, or when I nab a good making-of book.

Current films

2008 has involved my guidance in watching these articles:

  • Template:GAiconIron Man: I'm amazed how good the article has been without semi-protection. IPs are responding well to guidelines.
  • Template:GAiconThe Incredible Hulk: Part two of the Marvel Studios franchise, building to the Avengers movie. The mixed reaction to Ang Lee's film was a blessing-in-disguise for a fan like me. In the span of five years, there will be two unique takes on Stan Lee's superheroic Universal monster. For ages I doted on how to write about Norton's involvement from writing to the editing room and (lack of) promoting it, but I cleverly moved Editing from Production to Release. It has the honour of being my first Blu-ray purchase.
  • Template:GAiconThe Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian: Why did we Brits have to wait until June? C.S. Lewis, born in Belfast, wrote it here. Anyway, the film was your usual bigger, better sequel. The book wasn't one of my favourites in the series, but Andrew Adamson and co. made lots of alterations to make a more interesting, darker and spiritually subtler film. The article should help me create a standard to eventually improve the first film's article, which due to my focus on other projects will have to wait until 2010 when the third one is out.
  • Template:GAiconWALL-E: Turns out the reaction to WALL-E wasn't Pixar making a non-talkie, but a film that reminds people of old values in an age of consumerism and laziness run rampant. For me, WALL-E is on par with E.T. as to how much I would want it as a pet. Seriously, how much Disney? I'm drafting an expanded version of the production section. Others wrote the reception sections. It's going to be the first Pixar film I've got on DVD since The Incredibles: it's that good from a studio that has never made a bad film.
  • Template:GAicon The Dark Knight: May Ledger rest in peace having blown us all away with his final performance. But the story rested a lot more on Two-Face than the Joker, and Aaron Eckhart did a superb job: it's just the Oscars love unsubtle performances and I understand, it's all political since everyone doesn't have the same opinion. Everyone just knows Ledger was the best screen interpretation of a 70-something year-old character yet, in a world where Christian Bale won't be awarded for the same thing. I hope it's misinformation that Dick Grayson and Catwoman won't appear, they're very important to Batman afterall, but if that's the case I'd rather have Bane, Talia al Ghul, or even Two-Face again, than the Riddler.
  • Quantum of Solace: Casino Royale got to FA, so can this with my improved editing skills. Now it is an odd title, but heck, it's still Ian Fleming. I loved how SPECTRE was reinvented for the 2000s as Quantum, and that Bond has a more defined character arc (developing from brusque agent to a gentlemen is nothing new, as the filmmakers adjusted Bond from the young magnetic Connery to the charming if dirty-minded Moore, or when the angry Dalton became the dapper Brosnan). One of my proudest days on Wikipedia was when the title was announced, and I stemmed the flow of news. Consider it my main contribution to the Bond featured topic drive (though I've cleaned-up Goldfinger, my favourite Bond, a lot).
  • The Day the Earth Stood Still: I reckon Keanu Reeves will make an okay Klaatu, and the role has been adjusted as he's not as charismatic as Michael Rennie. I'm also thankful 20th Century Fox kept Gort the same design, despite keeping the same aesthetic for their version of Galactus. I also agree with updating the story for an environmental edge, but I'm unsure about adding mass scenes of destruction. Still, will be interesting to see all the coverage about this, the original, and the short story that started it all.

Oh, and if it's one thing I learned in 2008, it's that the film reviewers at The Times are not reliable sources: they gave bad reviews to the six lovely films I saw at the cinema this summer. What newspaper actually reviews something more than once?

2009 film articles I'm watching over are The Wolf Man, The Lovely Bones, Watchmen, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Star Trek, Angels & Demons (a far superior book to DVC), Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra, Sherlock Holmes, Fantastic Mr. Fox and Avatar. Coincidentally, Watchmen, Trek and Transformers were written by Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman (who did a last minute rewrite on the first, leisurely wrote the second and were locked in a hotel room for four months with Ehren Kruger to complete the last following the writers' strike). 2010's slate so far, Alice in Wonderland, Toy Story 3, The Sands of Time and Tintin. I'm always keeping an eye on the James Bond, X-Men Spider-Man, Pirates of the Caribbean and Tolkien's lot.

Goals for improvement

Honestly, there are so many B-class articles.
