Roja Selvamani is a veteran south Indian actress and politician.
Early life
She was born in Hyderabad, India in 1971.She is the daughter of Kumaraswamy Reddy,a native of Chittor district.Later he moved to Hyderabad. She learnt Kucchipudi for a few years. Her voice as a child was very rough- so many discouraged her from hoping to act in films.
Film Career
She entered the cine industry from Telugu films. She was first introduced in the Tamil film by director R.K. Selvamani in his film Chembaruthi paired with actor Prashanth. The movie was a blockbuster and paved the way for her in the Tamil cinema industry. Her appeal was universal. She had acted with almost all the top actors and directors in the industry.
Roja's career breakthrouh was in the film Unnidathil Ennai Koduthen, directed by Vikraman. She performed very well in this film in a character role. She has even acted for a solo song performance in a few movies without reservations. She has been awarded for her performances by magazines and organisations for roles in films in the Tamil language and the Telugu language.
Roja is well known for her outgoing nature. She has befriended her co-stars like Meena, Rambha, Devayani, Sithara and Kushbhu. During a film shoot for a Kannada movie, Premotsava in 2001, Roja volunteered to do make-up and hairdressing for her fellow star Devayani for about three days when the movie was shot in a remote location beyond Mysore. Actress Meena, in an interview in the Vijay TV program, "Coffee with Anu", admired Roja for her sisterly affection and wanted to act as her younger sister in a movie or TV serial, as they look alike.

Personal Life
She is married to the director R.K. Selvamani and has moved into Andhra politics. Her closest friend is the actress Meena. Her hobbies are costume designing and hairstyling.
