WKST, 96.1 KISS-FM, is a Rhythmic-leaning Top 40 mainstream outlet based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Clear Channel Communications outlet broadcasts at 96.1MHz with a ERP of 50kw.

History

The station originally signed on as WTAE-FM and had a MOR format until the mid 1970s, when it flipped to Disco. But by the time Disco died down it would flip to a Rock-leaning Top 40 direction as WXKX (96KX). But that would later give way in the mid 1980s to a straight-ahead Top 40 direction as WHTX, who in turn would evolve into a Gold-based Adult Contemporary outlet and reimaged itself as "Gold 96".

In 1991 it switched calls to WVTY and directions to a Adult Top 40 approach, which in turn would lead to a Modern Hits approach and new calls WDRV in 1996. After it was sold in 1997 WDRV moved back to Adult Top 40 as WPHH ("Mix 96.1"). But on September 30, 2000 they returned to the Top 40 ranks and became 96.1 KISS-FM.
