Richard "Dick" Stevenson was elected to serve the 8th Legislative District in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 2000.

In the current legislative session, Representative Stevenson serves on the Environmental Resources and Energy, Professional Licensure, and Tourism and Recreational Development Committees.[1]

Career

Representative Stevenson has seen three of his bills signed into law. Act 50 of 2005 honors veterans of recent military conflicts, including Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom and a special plate for veterans of general service. Act 189 of 2006 allows the sale of government documents to be exempt from the state’s sales tax, and Act 70 of 2007 increases the fee on bad checks. Representative Stevenson has cosponsored numerous bills to promote Pennsylvania businesses, including ones to provide funds for economic development and affordable housing, to establish industrial resource centers within the State Department of Community and Economic Development, to expand the Keystone Opportunity Zones to provide tax relief for new business and industry, to provide exclusions from sales and use taxes for qualifying entities, and to offer tax incentives to businesses for research and development purposes. Additionally, he authored legislation to provide for safety precautions on coal stockpiles and to provide tax credits for mine reclamation. He also sponsored a measure, which was unanimously adopted by the House, to urge the president and Congress to modify and reauthorize the Abandoned Mine Reclamation Fund.[2]

Personal

Representative Stevenson served in the United States Air Force from 1968 to 1972. He was an Air Crew member in Korea and served as a Korean Language Specialist with the USAF Security Service. Stevenson received a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Francis College in New York and a Master of Business Administration from Suffolk University in Massachusetts. He and his wife have two children, Sarah Hatfield and Emily Vallozzi, and three grandchildren.
