SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation is an upcoming third person tactical shooter video game developed by Slant Six Games for the PlayStation 3 exclusively. It is the sequel for the SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs series. It is being published by Sony Computer Entertainment. The game will support up to 32 players and will be sold both on the PlayStation Store and on a Blu-ray Disc.

The game is scheduled to be released October 14, 2008 with the launch of their new website SOCOM.com on March 27, 2008.[1][failed verification] The game was originally scheduled for a Summer 2008 at the Game Developers Conference by SCEA's Scott Steinberg.[3] The game was first announced at the SCEA's Gamers Day at their Santa Monica Studios on May 17 2007.[4][5]

Features

Designer Seth Luisi announced that there are seven different North African themed maps, including the redesigned SOCOM II: U.S. Navy SEALs famous "Crossroads". Slant Six recently confirmed that two other classic SOCOM I maps, "Desert Glory" and "Frostfire" are to be included as well. The remaining maps are going to be brand new, and to date three more maps have been announced; "Urban Wasteland," "Quarantine (formerly Viral Lab)," and "Kasbah." Each map allows for up to seven different game modes. Slant Six has no plans at this time to include vehicles as it wants the maps to be more "intimate" instead of larger styled maps of SOCOM 3.[citation needed]

The game will have a lobby system similar to SOCOM II and SOCOM 3, with games consisting of ranked and unranked matches. An auto match-making system will be included in addition to the classic briefing room and custom game set-up as seen in previous SOCOM titles. The game will support a party system, allowing for players to form a team with their friends and join an online game. Clan support will also be in-depth, with team tournaments and clan ladders rewarding top players with different weapons and game items. Users will be able to access and manage their clan from SOCOM.com.

The gameplay has also had several upgrades from previous installments. Players will be able to choose between the classic view or a brand new over-the-shoulder view. The game will support SIXAXIS features for an advanced cover system. For example, if your head is exposed while against a wall, tilt the controller downwards and your character will lower his head. Other new features include a melee knife attack for close-quarters combat as well as a new sprint feature.

Squads

There will be five different Special Ops squads to choose from in the game:[6]

Release

The game will be available in three different iterations. The first will be digital download via the PlayStation Network, and the second will be on Blu-ray Disc; the latter including an official PlayStation bluetooth headset. The game will also be available as a stand alone disc version, for a reduced price. The new headset will also be available for purchase separately if you download the game or lose the headset that was bundled with the game.

Slant Six has stated that that additional themed downloadable content packs available post launch, such as maps, skins and equipment and have promised that updates will occur every month with new downloadable content every three months.

Public Beta

The public beta is scheduled to run from September 5th, 2008 to October 5th, 2008. Users are able to join the beta by attaining a voucher from Gamestop (voucher attained by pre-ordering game) and can invite up to two friends to join them in the beta. Those who purchased the June edition of Qore will have access to the public beta starting on September 12th 2008.[7]

Players will be able to create their own clan and experience some of the new features the game has to offer. Crossroads, a famous re-make from previous games, is expected to make it's first public debut during the public beta. Furthermore you will love all the quality time you are getting to spend with your loading screen we recomend that you charge your controller at this time or maybe take a QUICK 15 minute nap.
