Last Choir Standing is a 2008 talent show-themed television series produced by the BBC in the United Kingdom which will broadcast on BBC One in July 2008. The show will see choirs competing each week to be the last choir standing.[1] The programme was initially to be called 'Choir Wars'[2]

Format

The show will air each Saturday evening and will be presented by Myleene Klass and Nick Knowles[3] with a panel of music experts consisting of singer Russell Watson, actress and singer Sharon D. Clarke as well as conductor Suzi Digby[4] in a weekly competition to be crowned "The nation's favourite choir".

Sixty choirs sang at the audition stage,[5] from which the panel voted for 27 choirs to be called back to the next round.[6] These 27 choirs then sang at the BBC studio in front of a live audience and the judges decided which 15 choirs should go through to the studio heats. Then six choirs will be chosen to sing on the live weekly shows. Each week the panel and the public will vote for which choir they want to save.[1]

The format is very similar to Welsh show Cor Cymru (Choir of Wales). Both shows have even featured many of the same Welsh choirs in competition with each other. The Sun's TV Guide today announced that Last Choir Standing has been commisioned for the Saturday Prime Time Slot next summer, BBC says they were very happy with the ratings and wants it to re air.

Auditions

Around 1,000 choirs entered the competition, with sixty choirs being invited to the auditions which took place on 10 May, 2008 at Cadogan Hall in London with choirs from all over the United Kingdom competing to reach the next round.[7][8] Each choir performed two songs in front of the three judges. To get through to the next stage the choir needed two of the judges to put them through.[5]
