Camp Lazlo is an animated series created by Joe Murray and airing on Cartoon Network. Murray previously created Nickelodeon's Rocko's Modern Life. Camp Lazlo features a BSA-like summer camp with all of the silliness near that of SpongeBob SquarePants, and craziness from Rocko's Modern Life

Lazlo the Monkey, Raj the Elephant, and Clam the Albino Pygmy Rhinoceros of the Jelly Bean Cabin are the newest Bean Scouts in camp and Scoutmaster Algonquin C. Lumpus is a moose with a pessimistic attitude reminiscent of Squidward Tentacles.

Like Murray's other show, Rocko's Modern Life, this show also features all animal characters. Like "Rocko's Modern Life", Camp Lazlo is popular with various ages, having diverse audiences from adults to teenagers to children. Carlos Alazraqui, Tom Kenny and Mr. Lawrence, who used to work for him on Rocko's Modern Life, also provide lead voices in this show, as well as veteran voice actors like Cree Summer, Dee Bradley Baker, Jeff Bennett, Jodi Benson, Jill Talley and Jennifer Hale, along with Alazraqui's Reno 911 co-star, Steve Little. Camp Lazlo premiered on July 8, 2005 with episodes on Fridays at 8 PM ET/PT in the USA.

Characters

Main Characters

Lazlo: A fun loving, free-wheeling Brazilian spider monkey, Lazlo is one happy camper. However, with all the rules, routine, and structure of Camp Kidney, Lazlo and his friends have a hard time fitting in with the locals (namely Lumpus and Edward). Lazlo's cheerful attitude and enthusiastic imagination towards solving problems doesn't always match Scoutmaster Lumpus' idea of how things should be done. Carlos Alazraqui plays the voice of Lazlo.

Raj: One of Lazlo's bunkmates at Camp Kidney, Raj is an elephant with some hang-ups. He hates a mess, cowers from snakes and bugs, and is afraid of being alone — which is perfect for summer camp! In spite of his fears, Raj sticks with his friends in their adventures because, like them, he loves fun, almost as much as his record collection. He speaks with an Indian accent and likes marshmallows, and sometimes has to bring Lazlo down to earth. His secret ambition is to become a professional disc jockey, as shown in "The Nothing Club", also, in the episode "Float Trippers" it is revealed that Raj has a retainer, and that it was his last day, and if he didn't wear it, his teeth would overgrow. Jeff Bennett voices Raj.

Clam: A quirky, albino pygmy rhino who got his knowledge and the items in his Jelly Bean cabin space from box tops, seemingly "four cents short of a nickel," Clam is actually a musical and academic genius and is often misunderstood by others, including Lumpus. Always a protective friend, Clam loves thrill-seeking and chowing down on cereal...especially the kinds with cool prizes in the boxes. He usually speaks in "sentences" that almost never exceed four words. Carlos Alazraqui does Clam's voice.

Scoutmaster Lumpus and Slinkman: Scoutmaster Algonquin C. Lumpus (THAT'S "LOOMPUS!") is a frustrated stick-in-the-mud moose who's selfish because everything has to be exactly how he likes it to be or else he'll have a huge tantrum. He really wanted to be Head Master Troop but is "stuck" in his job running Camp Kidney and making sure that no one — espically his least-favorite Bean Scout, Lazlo and the rest of Jelly Bean Cabin — has any fun. He also has a crush on Squirrel Scout leader Ms. Jane Doe. Given the thankless job of being Lumpus' assistant, Slinkman is a banana slug who literally has no backbone. He knows the Bean Scout manual cover-to-cover, is loyal, kind, obedient and generally keeps the camp running due to Scoutmaster Lumpus' frequent hissy fits and constant laziness. Poor Slinkman has to do a lot of things, but he does love kids, particularly those of Jelly Bean Cabin, and sometimes acts like one of them. He's a master at shadow puppets, and a good prankster. and imitating Scoutmaster Lumpus, and is also a race car afficionado. Their voices are done by actor Tom Kenny. It has been discovered/revealed in Slugfest that Scoutmaster Lumpus actually enjoys hanging out with Slinkman hence Slinkman worked for Scoutmaster Lumpus for 5 years. It has also been revealed that Slinkman has been pranking on Lumpus every June 7th, because he forgets his birthday all the time.

Edward the Platypus: A stickler for the rules, Edward holds a big, fat grudge against anyone who doesn't follows them. He's constantly coming up with schemes to spoil any fun that Lazlo and his pals might have, especially when in "The Nothing Club" where everyone except Lazlo was in an anti-Lazlo club. However, he agrees with Lazlo in "Loogie Llama" that they need to get ol' Spitty back from the Squirrel Scouts because Spitty's one of them Mr. Lawrence provides his voice.

Chip and Skip, The Dung Beetles: These twins are smelly with heads full of rocks, Chip and Skip are usually the clueless ones who help Edward carry out his schemes. They're the easiest scouts at Camp Kidney to spot because they're constantly being followed by a big cloud of dirt (like Pig-Pen in the Peanuts comics) and flies. Skip proudly wears his awards sash on his uniform to differentiate himself from Chip. Both are voiced by Steve Little.

Samson the Guinea Pig: A clean freak, Samson is usually seen with Edward...but not often. He is a disaster just waiting to happen, because it seems that way. For example, we learn in "The Wig of Why" when "Madame Lazlo" correctly predicts with the wig on that Samson will be hit with a volleyball, so throughout this episode, he wears a helmet and is hit by volleyballs. And in "Camp Kidney Stinks", we discover he has a very sensitive nose and refuses to go into the stinkweed with the others. Jeff Bennett provides Samson's voice.

Dave and Ping-Pong, The ostrich Twins: Another set of idnetical twins, except that Ping-Pong is taller. In "The Wig of Why", "Madame Lazlo" correctly predicted that Ping-Pong was allergic to his predictions, because this only happened because Clam was absent-mindedly waving the feather fan at Ping-Pong's nose, making him sneeze. Mr. Lawrence does both their voices.

The Lemmings: These light green-colored Bean Scout quadruplets named Larry, Leonard, Louie and Liniment carried eliminated contestants from the pine-cone sitting contest in "It's No Picnic" via stretcher, and carry canoes in "Parasitic Pal" and "Float Trippers". Meanwhile, they all ran away from Lazlo in "The Nothing Club" when he approached them. All their voices are done by Steve Little.

The Squirrel Scouts: Across Leakey Lake at the Acron Flats Campground, the female counterparts to the Bean Scouts, called the Squirrel Scouts can be found. The three most commonly seen Squirrel Scouts are Gretchen, the always hungry alligator; Nina, the scholary giraffe (both voiced by Jill Talley, Tom Kenny's spouse); and Patsy, the upbeat, chipper mongoose and former Greco-Roman wrestling champion who loves Lazlo and will jump on him at any chance she gets (voiced by Jodi Benson). Ms. Jane Doe, the leader of the Squirrel Scouts (whose voice is also provided by Ms. Benson), is the apple of Scoutmaster Lumpus' eye, while her assistant, Miss Mucus, a Warthog who is personality wise worse than Lumpus, (also voiced by Jill Talley) hates Bean Scouts. Other scouts are mentioned off-screen by Jane Doe, such as Almondine the Owl.

One Time Characters

Commander Hoo-Ha: Is the true leader of Camp Kidney. He gives inspections which brings the whole camp into a nervous wreck, and before hand was only mentioned in the series. That is, everyone except the Jelly Bean Scouts (Lazlo, Raj, and Clam). The penalty for failing is no clean underwear for a year. He looks like a buffalo or bison and his name comes from the military exclamation "Hoo-ha!" (or "Hoo-ah!"). Jeff Bennett does his voice.

Migrating Mulberry Tree: A tree that literally migrates from place to place. Once it arrives at Camp Kidney, both Lumpus and Lazlo are enraptured that they have finally seen it. Although Lumpus wants to chop it down to make a wooden canoe, Lazlo, Raj & Clam trick Lumpus into marrying the tree, and Lumpus falls in love with it. He is extremely sad when the tree migrates to Florida.

Lamar: Lazlo's temporary pet sea lamprey that clamped onto his head while he was swimming. The other scouts were wanting to get rid of it no matter what. He's also got a theme song. At the end of the episode, it was revealed that Lamar was actually a Lauren, due to the fact that she had babies which clamped onto the other scouts' heads.

Spitty: A smelly old llama that Lazlo brought into camp so the kids could ride on it. The words of the Buddy Wuddy song were altered for him. In the end, they let him run away.

Nigel Slothworth: Is the host of the Scout Talk TV show as seen in "Prodigous Clamus". Voiced by Matt Frewer.

Lifeguards Pierre and No-Neck: Are Camp Kidney's lifeguards and assign swimming buddies based on how they do in a test. One small problem, though: They have no idea how to swim. One more thing its true lifeguard No-Neck has no neck. Jeff Bennett does their voices. The name Pierre is a french name, suggesting Pierre and No-Neck are from France.
