This page works similar to Wikipedia:Votes for deletion, only the other way around: If a page is listed here for at least a week with no objections, it can be added to the Wikipedia:Featured pictures list. If there are objections, they have to be worked out, until a nearly unanimous consensus is reached.

If you nominate a page to which you have contributed all or a large majority of content, then it must be seconded by at least one more person in order to be accepted. Some people may object to self-nominations on principle.

Also, be sure to sign (with date/time) your nomination ("~~~~" in the editor).

    • I can't find that image file. Bevo 20:29, 4 Feb 2004 (UTC)
      • Images uploaded between 24th/28th January are missing due to a hardware failure, hopefully they will be restored at some point (users can re-upload files right away if they prefer)

Suggestion for replacement

  • I don't know exactly where to put this, I hope it is o.k. to bring it up here. The image Image:USS_Port_Royal_CG-73.jpg is listed on the "featured pictures" list and to be honest I don't quite agree with that because it contains a lot of noise. The image itself was never formally nominated--it was added in May 2003 when the nomination process for images did not exist. I tried removing some of the noise with a brilliant tool I found a couple of days ago [1] (if you don't know it already you really should have a look at this--it's amazing). To make a long story short: I don't want to replace a featured picture, therefore I would like to have a go from you first. A comparison of both images can be found on User:Marco_Krohn/USS_Port_Royal_CG-73 the first one being the current one, the second one my suggestion. -- mkrohn 23:21, 6 Feb 2004 (UTC) -- update: I just replace the image. -- mkrohn 10:18, 7 Feb 2004 (UTC)
    • it's look way better !!! i second the replacement --Chmouel Boudjnah 00:26, 7 Feb 2004 (UTC)
    • Thirded. I downloaded the tool you pointed to but couldn't install it, it didn't find some .dll file? I'll have to wait until the computer techie comes home I guess. fabiform | talk 00:43, 7 Feb 2004 (UTC)
      • Oh, and if there are featured photos which didn't go through due process, perhaps we should vote on them all like they're doing at the moment on featured articles. fabiform | talk 00:43, 7 Feb 2004 (UTC)
      • I use the linux version and this one works very good though the image inpainting is limited to mono(!) images :-( -- mkrohn 10:18, 7 Feb 2004 (UTC)

I have placed a propsal to merge this page with Wikipedia:Featured article candidates on that page, if you have anything to add to this idea (agree, object, etc) then go to that page and have your say. It has been requested that the pages not be merged until after February 20th, when Featured articles candidates will have worked through a backlog of votes taking place on articles from the old Brilliant Prose page (which were added before the current system of voting was implemented). fabiform | talk 00:43, 7 Feb 2004 (UTC)
