Nemmara Vela

Nemmara is a small village in Palakkad district in Kerala, India. This village is famous for its festival usually known as Nemmara Vallengi Vela (Festival) or simply Nemmara Vela its also known as Nellikkulangara Vela. This festival (Vela) is conducted by two villages Nemmara and Vallengi. There is always a healthy compitition between these two village, that the Vela conductcted by there side should be better than the other.

The festival is famous for its fire works and the processions of richly caparisoned elephants. Each side (Nemmara and Vallengi) will be very compititive to make there vela better. For example if Nemmara side bring 20 elephants for there vela Vallengi side will try to bring one more than that.

The fire works is one of the beautiful thing to see, its even better than Trichur Pooram (festival).

The main temple of this village is of Sri Nellikulangara Bhagavathi temple where Nemmara Vallengi Vela is celebrated. Its is on the 20th of Meenam (in Malayalam era) - this may come on 2nd or 3rd of April.


How to reach there

From Airport: Come to Trichur - 30Kms, Take a taxi to Nemmara or by bus from Trichur bus stand to Nemmara - 35Kms. From Pallakad: By taxi or bus to Nemmara - 30Kms.
