Jobst of Moravia was born in 1351 as son of John Henry of Bohemia, margrave of Moravia, the brother of emperor Charles IV. Jobst was margrave of Brandenburg from 1388-1411.

When emperor Ruprecht III Wittelsbach died in 1410, both Jobst and Sigismund were candidates. Jobst died in 1411 and Sigismund came to reign as king, then emperor of the Holy Roman Empire.
