If I put welcome text on a user page rather than a talk page, it was purely accidental. Can you point me to the page so I can fix it? Thanks, Noldoaran 20:28, Dec 4, 2003 (UTC)

sorry about that. Noldoaran 20:33, Dec 4, 2003 (UTC)

Here's a chance for me to learn how you handle it when someone starts a new page with info already well covered elsewhere! See Battle of Dieppe which was created today, and existing Dieppe Raid page. Moriori 22:23, Dec 4, 2003 (UTC)

There is at least one person who believes that a source text can be removed from the English Wikipedia and listed on Transwiki at the time of removal, without going via VfD first. See meta:Talk:Transwiki. As is probably obvious from my comments, I strongly disagree - I like due process and advance notice.:) I'm confident that the Israel item isn't infringing. Probably best to leave it on copyvios for at least 24 hours in case someone disagrees with my view that fair use of it is broader than GFDL. If someone does, I'll do the copyright registration and renewal lookup and find out if it's actually public domain or not, then either write that it is or explain just why I believe that the fair use is that broad. Ah I see your point. I misunderstood the function, as I had seen someone else use it for a slight change in wording before. Thanks for pointing that out. Leumi 17:00, 5 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Psst, it's "definitely", not "definately" (related to finite). Cheers, Cyan 17:41, 5 Dec 2003 (UTC)

And I'm most grateful that you're cleaning out the reference desk :-). Cheers, Cyan 17:45, 5 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Very many thanks, Sasha, for nominating me. It is good to be appreciated. -- Dieter Simon 01:14, 6 Dec 2003 (UTC)

I got a message from you. Thanks for your welcome. How do I get rid of old messages? just a matter of removing the text ?? Thanks, GerardM

I hope the editing is going well-as well as the fundraising maybe? Last I checked, we had raised 33,000! Check it out:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BCS

New user boilerplate text

In your new user boilerplate text, you have a semicolon(;) where you should have a colon(:). I would fix it but I don't like editing other users' (sub)pages without permission. You most likely got that boilerplate text from Angela(or vice-versa). She has corrected the problem. Noldoaran (Talk) 21:20, Dec 8, 2003 (UTC)

That's what I was going to say! I do it on purpose so I can see who's stealing my messages. ;) (not really) Angela. 21:24, 8 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Garbage

Ack! I'm an idiot. I moved the content. Thanks for your help.

I think we are supposed to email the site asking them if they have given permission. This has come up several times this week so far, I'm not sure whether people have been emailed or not but when I see them claiming this I add it to the VfD page. Secretlondon 16:00, Dec 10, 2003 (UTC)

I don't know. One problem is that everyone would just claim that they had permission. Maybe we should check to see if the IP address belongs to the University of Sheffield (I can't do that from here). Secretlondon 16:07, Dec 10, 2003 (UTC)

Please let me know what the conclusion is. Thanks. Secretlondon 16:09, Dec 10, 2003 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for moving my question from the Reference Desk! ^^

NASA

Hi. A while back you moved NASA to National Aeronautics and Space Administration. While it doesn't matter much to me where the article is located, I thought I'd point out that on Wikipedia:Naming conventions (acronyms), NASA is specifically cited as a well-known acronym that doesn't need to be spelled out. So, I'd recommend either updating the naming convention or moving it back to NASA. Anyway, it's up to you. Cheers, Minesweeper 12:50, 12 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Thanks

for the welcome refdoc

Precisely what is wrong with my comment:

"Critiquing alternative medicine in general should be equated to howling at the moon since in the real world only specific branches of alternative medicine exist."

It is factually 100% correct.

The present presentation of Alternative medicine is not objective, period. It is totally slanted to disrespect something that is totally legal in most localities.

When will you correct the obious distortion to this article, if I am not allowed to correct it?--Mr-Natural-Health 18:53, 13 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Image:Carte Localisation Région France Bourggne.png - the GPL is incompatible with the GFDL, believe it or not, and the fr: page says license=GPL. Is this just a harmless mismarking by the uploader confusing the GPL with the GFDL? Can we resolve this somehow?

I hate to be a downer and all, because it's great that you're "stealing" French images, and adding the right link-backs too, so people can check these things. So thanks! Martin 19:52, 13 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Hello, snoyes. Thanks for the welcome. I have already started to contribute and I hope that I am doing it correctly ! One thing I am unsure about is when I write new text, is there any way that I, or the Wiki software, can recognise that a word or phrase already exists as a title somewhere and can alert me to marking this as a link in my text ? Thanks for any help Paladin 13:36, 14 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Regarding your comment on User talk:142.154.114.134; I think you might as well delete them, for the reasons I said on that page, although the user:142 could maybe be redirected to user:142.177.etc. Angela. 04:43, 15 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Did you read the Diebold page before you reverted my edit? It is biased flamebait. I've listed it on articals that need improving hoping someone would know enough to do a good job. Nothing happened, and I got sick of it in the current form. I removed all the flamebait, and even added some content (not much) that seems to be missing. I don't want to get into a revert war, but please explain your actions bluGill

I've written the bulk of an article about climbing equipment, currently at User:Stewartadcock/Climbing_equipment. Maybe you'd like to take a look and make some comments? I've got some photos to add at some point. Stewart Adcock 06:39, 16 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Thanks for the welcome :) been about a week now... sad to see it go down, I was just getting started. Ah well, I have articles to write. :) Thank ye Lyellin 03:56, Dec 30, 2003 (UTC)

Thanks for the welcome note. This Wikipedia stuff is absolutely addictive... :)

Thanks for handling the wikimoney, I'd actually given up on that.  :) - Hephaestos 01:19, 3 Jan 2004 (UTC)
