Sujangarh is a town and tehsil of Churu district in Rajasthan, India. It is known for beautiful temples, havelis and 18th century forts.

Geography

Sujangarh is located at 27°42′N 74°28′E / 27.7°N 74.47°E / 27.7; 74.47.[1] It has an average elevation of 312 metres (1023 feet).

Demographics

As of 2001 India census,[2] Sujangarh had a population of 83,808. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Sujangarh has an average literacy rate of 64%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 74%, and female literacy is 55%. In Sujangarh, 17% of the population is under 6 years of age.

From Sujangarh Railway Station one can catch train for Degana, Ratangarh, Churu, Rewari,Bikaner,Sadulpur. After gauge conversion demanded by local public direct rail facility should be available for Delhi and Jodhpur too.

Roads

Sujangarh is well connected by roads with almost all major cities of Rajasthan and New Delhi. National Highway 65 passes through Sujangarh that connects it to Jodhpur and Chandigarh. Other than this, Rajasthan Mega Highway also passes from the town which connects it to Ajmer and Hanumangarh. The direct bus service is available for Delhi, Surat, Ahamdabad,Udaipur, Jodhpur, Jaipur,Kota, Ajmer, Bikaner, Ganganagar, Hisaar, Roorkee, Haridwar, Indore and many other near and far towns.

Sujangarh is also home to Late Sri Kundanmalji Sethia who was instrumental in propagating " ANUVRAT MOVEMENT" launched by His Holiness Achraya Shri Tulsi the ninth Acharaya of Terapanth sect of Jainism.

Acharaya Mahapragya the 10th Acharaya of Terapanth Sect also started his now famous " ANHISA YATRA" (journey of non-violence) from Sujangarh in the year 2001. The journey has taken him, along with a 100 strong contigent of his ordinated disciples to various parts of India including Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab and New Delhi. The ex-president of India Dr. Abdul Kalam Azad is a great admirer of Acharaya Mahapragya as well.
