This is a list of commercial and retail banks in the USA. For companies whose business is primarily investment banking, see List of investment banks

According to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), there were 8,694 active financial instutitions in the United States as of March 1, 2007. The complete list is available from the FDIC's site, linked at the bottom of this page.

Banks are listed by the state, commonwealth, or territory in which the bank's headquarters are located. Successors to defunct banks are indicated in parentheses. Some of the banks have links to their websites. Some banks will be listed in all or multiple states if they are a Federal and National bank with additional branches in the referenced state.
