The Permanent Joint Board of Defence (spelled Defense in the United States) was established by Canada and the United States on August 18, 1940. The sharing of defence information and co-operation in war efforts soon followed. The Board has a combined military and civilian membership. The Board conducts studies and reports to the two governments.
