Second Schleswig War

Hi Katzenbär. Your English is fine, no problems there. I've read some descriptions of the war of 1864, and I find the claim that Christian IX should have declared war very bizzare. Denmark was trying to avoid a war with Prussia at that time, but things didn't end that way. You might be interested in a post I made to User talk:Wispanow a few days ago. It is a translation of these events, as described in Dansk Udenrigspolitiks Historie. Please forgive me for the short reply, but I am not able to edit much for the next couple of days. If you need more details, please let me know, and I can try to dig them up. Anyway, in Denmark, the war is considered to have started on 1 February 1864. E.g. I recently found a book with contemporary illustrations from this war, and one of them showed a Danish soldier firing a shot at a distant enemy. It had the caption "On advance post on 1 February". If you read Danish, you might be interested in http://illustrerettidende.dk which has facsimile copies of a popular Danish newspaper. The archive includes the issues from 1863 and 1864. Regards. Thanks a lot! I think, I will change the articles about the war in 1864 on the German wikipedia the next days. Maybe I can (before doing that) take a look into the Dansk Udenrigspolitiks Historie at our library. greetings, --Katzenbär 17:40, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
