In Major League Baseball, win, generally refers to a pitcher leaving his game with a lead, not there, when he began pitching, and the team holding this lead.

The winningest pitcher of all time, and the only pitcher to win over 500 games, is Cy Young with 511 career wins. He was 511-316 all-time. Walter Johnson with 417 is 2nd, and Pete Alexander tied with Christy Mathewson at 373 finish up the Top 3.

Roger Clemens of the Houston Astros tops all active pitchers with 333. Greg Maddux is the only other active pitcher with 300 wins, at 310. Many experts believe that Tom Glavine at 266 may be the last pitcher to reach 300 wins for a very long time, if even he can. Randy Johnson and Mike Mussina also are thought to have a chance, depending on how long their careers can last. Maddux was the 22nd 300-game winner when he reached the mark in 2004.
