The 2002 tennis US Open suffered numerous delays from rain in the first week and a half.

Pete Sampras defeated Andre Agassi for his 14th major and first Tour victory since 2000.

Serena Williams defeated Venus Williams, continuing her upper hand in recent matches between the sisters.
