Tyrone Thompson (born May 8, 1981 in Sheffield, England) is an English footballer, currently a free agent after leaving Halifax Town.

Thompson attended King Edward VII School in Sheffield; he started his career after signing as a trainee at Sheffield United F.C., making four appearances from July 2000 to July 2003. During his three years at Sheffield United, Thompson also had loan spells with Lincoln City and Doncaster Rovers. He moved to Huddersfield Town on a free after his Sheffield United contract expired, staying there until June 2004, and only making two first-team appearances (and only one start). A move to Scarborough followed, where he finally managed to hold down a first-team place, making 44 starts and scoring 2 goals. He left Scarborough in August of 2005, joining Halifax on a free. During this time he accused Northwich Victoria captain Stuart Elliott of racial abuse. Elliott was later cleared.[2] Thompson was a first team regular but, despite the offer of new contract at Halifax he failed to make contact with the West Yorkshire club and therefore became a free agent at the end of the 2006-07 season. [3]. It was later reported that he was a possible target for Halifax's Conference National rivals York City.[4]
