Thomas Spriggs Wootton High School is a secondary school located in the city of Rockville, Maryland. Its students come primarily from Robert Frost Middle School and Cabin John Middle School. the school is named for Thomas Spriggs Wootton, who founded Montgomery County.

Fame

The school is known for exceptional academic performance, and has been ranked among the top 100 high schools in the United States. It offers a large number of advanced courses, with a record-breaking number of students enrolled in them.

In 2001, OAR, which 4/5 members go to Wootton, preformed at the James A. Coles Field before they reached stardom. It was reported SGA tried to lure them back in 2004, but to not sucess.

In 2002, George W. Bush visited Wootton and spoke with the senior class about a Veterans Day program becuase the School mascot is the Patriot.

In 2004, the Cross Country team boys team led by Hawaiian imports, Nick and Danny Jachowski finshed 4th in the state in 4A Competition. In recent years, the girls team has achieved individual sucess with Veronica Salicido and Michele Levy.

In early 2005, the Wootton Cheerleading squad was caught in a scandal when pictures of cheerleaders in uniform in provocative poses made their way to pornographic sites. This was not the first scandal that engulfed Wootton. In 2002, Damon Fernandez was forced out due to a possible affair with a student, Lia. In 2004, Edward Marks, popular substitute was fired due to buying a student booze. In addition to this, he frequently IMed students, which upset Assisstant Principal Joeseph Mamana.

On February 26, 2005, the Wootton Science Bowl team won the Maryland/Delaware Regional Science Bowl. They will compete at the National Science Bowl in May, 2005.

Overall besides Cross Country, it is good at the "country club" sports of tennis and golf. The School's football team is usually below expatations, despite the fact they were runner-ups in 1990. Jason Furst has led the basketball team to recent stardom, after a dismal year last season.

The current prinicipal of the school is Michael Doran; he took over in July 2003 from the controversial Rebecca Newman whose sexual orientation was questioned. The school currently has over 2200 students and most take AP or Honors classes. It is noted for its high Jewish and Asian populations.
